Reverie Familiale

Reverie Familiale is a piece written for piano and string orchestra, commissioned by Kayla Nicol for a concert in which she was conducting.  wanted to write an emotive, yet uplifting piece. One that has a sense of grief pervading whilst also remaining hopeful and sincere.

This piece tells the story of familial connections, moving from dramatic, sweeping melodies to intimate, reflective textures. The piece is dedicated to Sam's Grandfather, Keith Moss, who passed away in November of last year. - An extract from the program note

Testimonials

"Rêverie Familiale is a beautiful piece and was easy to put together with the ensemble and soloist due to it's natural fluidity of harmony and melody. It was also very enjoyable for the players as it feels as if the music was composed in a very free and organic way which allows the the soloist and the ensemble to play from the soul. It was great to work with Sam and a pleasure to conduct his music." - Kayla Nicol, Conductor

"I was very honoured to have been asked by my good friend Sam to premiere this piece.  I have always loved Sam's compositional world and was very excited to perform one of his works. This piece was very emotionally involving to play and pianistic in style. The use of harmony was incredibly inventive and helped shape my interpretation of the piece." - Owen Lee, Pianist
